Walking - Talking in Scotland

We offer week-long combined language and walking holidays in the friendly town of Crieff, Perthshire in the geographical centre of Scotland. In the mornings we offer language training in small groups with the emphasis on boosting confidence and improving your conversational skills. After lunch, we put on our walking boots and explore the beautiful surroundings.

Leisure & Tourism

The region gained its walking reputation at the beginning of the 18th century when it hosted the Crieff Tryst, the largest cattle market in Scotland. At that time the region was renowned for its wild frontier town atmosphere where rough and ready Highland drovers struck deals with canny Lowland dealers. Each year the Tryst is celebrated with walkers from all corners of the world gathering to participate in the week’s long walking festival in October.

Lady Mary WalkStraddling the Highland boundary line, Crieff enjoys the best of Scotland’s upland and lowland scenery. Rugged and rocky highland hills rub shoulders with rolling lowland landscapes, carved by the majestic River Earn and its many tributaries. Crieff walks have been set up with the added support and generous help of local landowners and farmers.

Whether you explore the picturesque highlands or shop in the welcoming cities of Perth and Stirling, or simply venture back in time at a relaxed pace as you stroll alongside the un spoilt banks of the rivers and lochs, or take in the awe-inspiring and dramatic mountainous Crieff and Strathearn Valley, there remains little more tempting!

Knock WalkThe rivers are some of the cleanest in Europe, and there is no commercial traffic to interfere with the tranquil atmosphere. Holiday traffic is light by many European standards but is ensures pleasure for everyone … and pleasurable it is.

Banked by gentle green countryside and magnificent mountainous terrain, these reed-lined loch-adorned waterways and designated footpaths offer peace and the opportunity to relax and study the wonderful array of wonderful wildlife that thrives in this pure and un spoilt environment.

If you wish to be more adventurous and explore the more strenuous walks, feel free to do so. There are so many great and delightful walks within easy reach of Crieff and Strathearn. There are several designated walks that meander through young oak wooded areas and along river banks. Savour the Earn’s riverside paths which generations of Crieff towns-folk have enjoyed as they seek out the ‘Sands’ and the ‘Ling-a-Wing’ [placid pool] where children set up diving boards and paddles in the Earn.

Today, people visit Crieff for similar reasons as there is always plenty to do and see, and taking a walk on the much trodden paths.
