Local food and recipe writer Kathryn Hawkins together with Crieff chefs will cook up a tempting array of local delicacies for you to taste, including local fruit, vegetables, meats, and sweet treats sourced from the market and other local producers. This will be a real family treat, with something for both adults and children alike. Find out more about the food and drink on your doorstep and meet the producers, too. It’s fun and it’s free!

Cookery demos and tasting sessions run at 10.30am, 12 noon, 1.30pm and 2.30pm

Scotland Food & Drink, in association with Crieff and Strathearn Tourist Association and the Drovers’ Tryst, is proud to be supporting the event

Taste of Strathearn at Crieff Country Market
(10th October 2009, James Square, Crieff)

10.30am – For the kids - local strawberries & other fruit tasters - Handy Shop; Pancakes – Kenmore Bakery; Fruit Smoothies – Paparazzi Bistro

Noon – chef’s demo:
Neil McLean from Crieff Hydro & Kathryn Hawkins, food and recipe writer: Haggis balls and whisky sauce and Autumnal lamb stir fry.

1.30pm – chef’s demo (as above): Sausages and beetroot mash and Pork, black pudding and pear salad

2.30pm – chef’s demo: Derek Hughes from Café Central & Kathryn Hawkins: “Grouse” soused Bara Brith and White chocolate and raspberry cake with fruit wine syrup.

As well as the cookery demos, there will also be samples of local produce to taste like bakery goodies, sweeties, jams, honey, Scottish cheeses, oatcakes and chutneys. All the recipes demonstrated will be available in a free leaflet. Throughout the day, you’ll be able to hear tales from the days of the Drovers and be able to watch historical reenactments and demonstrations from way back when Crieff was the centre of the cattle droving trade.
